Describe a Time You Saw Something Interesting on Social Media | IELTS Cue Card Sep–Dec 2025 | Band 8

    When it was

    Where you saw it

    What you saw

And explain why you think it was interesting

    Vocab/Idioms

    1. Part and parcel → essential part

    2 Fascinating → very interesting

    3 Globetrotter → world traveller

4  Sigh of relief → relaxed breath

    5  Like a charm → very effectively

    6  Extremely → very much

In this era of digitalization, social media has become a part and parcel of our lives, and I usually spend my free time scrolling through it because it offers a wide variety of videos, ranging from entertainment to educational content.

Today, I would like to talk about a fascinating video that I came across on YouTube. If my memory serves me right, it was last Sunday night when I was free at home and casually using YouTube to relax after a busy day.

If I talk about what was in the video, I found a short clip that demonstrated a clever life hack for folding clothes. The person in the video showed how to roll shirts and pants in a special way to save space in a suitcase. They also placed small items like socks in the empty spaces, which made the packing look extremely neat and tidy. Honestly, I had never thought about such a simple yet effective method before.

The key reason why I found it interesting is because it was really practical and useful for me. Actually, I’m a bit of a globetrotter , and whenever I travel, I often face a real headache while packing my luggage. But after watching this trick, I felt a genuine sigh of relief, as it looked quick, simple, and effective. Later on, when I tried it myself while preparing a small bag for a weekend trip, it actually worked like a charm and saved me a lot of space.

All in all, I can say that while the majority of people enjoy watching random short videos just for fun, I personally prefer those that are short but straight to the point, especially when they are practical and can make life easier in some way.

    Follow-ups

    1. Why do people like to use social media?

Well, people use social media for various reasons. It helps them stay connected with friends and family, share daily updates, and get quick entertainment. For example, many people use WhatsApp and Instagram to keep in touch instantly without spending much money.

    2. What kind of things are popular on social media?
Actually, there are countless things that go viral on social media such as funny reels, travel vlogs, and food videos. For instance, cooking tutorials are extremely popular these days because they are short, easy to follow, and useful in daily life.

    3. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using social media?
To be very honest, the biggest advantage is that it keeps people connected and provides quick access to information. On the flip side, it can waste a lot of time and sometimes spread fake news. For example, students often get distracted by scrolling instead of focusing on studies.

    4. What do you think of making friends on social media?
In my view, making friends on social media can be both good and risky. On one hand, it helps people connect globally and learn about different cultures. On the other hand, some online friendships may not be genuine. For example, many youngsters make friends on Facebook but later realize those people are not trustworthy.
