    7+ Band Answer

Some people believe that individuals are mainly responsible for maintaining their own health, while others argue that governments should ensure the well-being of their citizens. This essay will discuss both views and explain why I believe that responsibility should be shared between individuals and the state.

On the one hand, those who support individual responsibility argue that people have full control over their lifestyle choices. Daily habits such as consuming a balanced diet, exercising regularly, and avoiding harmful substances like tobacco and alcohol directly influence physical and mental health. Individuals are also more aware of their own bodies and routines, which enables them to recognise early signs of illness and take preventive measures. By practising self-discipline and adopting healthy behaviours, people can significantly reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart conditions. Therefore, personal responsibility and self-care play a vital role in maintaining long-term health.

On the other hand, many people believe that governments have a crucial responsibility to protect public health. Authorities are responsible for providing affordable and accessible healthcare services, including hospitals, vaccinations, and emergency treatment. In addition, governments can organise public health campaigns to raise awareness about disease prevention and healthy living, particularly among vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. Furthermore, regulations related to food safety, pollution control, and workplace conditions help minimise health risks that individuals cannot manage on their own. When such policies are effectively enforced, the overall health of society improves.

In my opinion, maintaining good health should be a shared responsibility between individuals and governments. While people must make healthy lifestyle choices, these efforts are often ineffective without proper government support. For example, individuals may wish to eat nutritious food, but without regulation of food quality and pricing, this becomes challenging. Similarly, although people are responsible for seeking medical care, governments must ensure that healthcare services are affordable and widely available.

In conclusion, although individuals are responsible for their personal health choices, governments must create a supportive environment through effective healthcare systems and policies to promote a healthier society.
