    Vocab/ Idioms

    • To set the ball rolling – Start something
    • Fast-paced world – Busy life
    • Breath of fresh air – Refreshing change
    • Ideally – Perfectly suited
    • A journey is best measured in friends, not miles – Meaningful travel
    • Budget friendly – Low cost
    • Environment friendly – Eco friendly
    • Lifts my mood – Boosts happiness

Well, to set the ball rolling, I’d like to shed some light on an outdoor sport that not only keeps me energized but also helps me reconnect with nature — and that’s none other than cycling. In today’s fast-paced world, where people are glued to screens and stuck in routines, I believe engaging in outdoor sports is like a breath of fresh air. For me, cycling is not just a sport, it’s a form of therapy that allows me to break free from daily stress and experience a sense of freedom on two wheels.

As far as the place and time are concerned, I would love to go cycling early in the morning, around sunrise, when the roads are empty and the air is cool and fresh. Ideally, I’d like to cycle through the countryside, or in a natural setting like a forest trail or a hilly road. The peaceful surroundings and natural beauty really help me feel calm and positive.

When it comes to company, I’d prefer to go with one of my close friends, maybe my cousin who is also into fitness. As the saying goes, “a journey is best measured in friends, not miles.” Riding with someone makes the whole experience more enjoyable, and it keeps us motivated when we face tough paths or long distances. Having a companion also adds fun to the activity, and we can encourage each other to keep going.

Now, talking about why I enjoy this sport so much, the first reason is health. Cycling is a great full-body workout and helps me stay fit without needing a gym membership. Secondly, it’s budget-friendly and environment-friendly, which makes it a smart choice. Also, whenever I feel stressed , a long ride helps clear my mind and lifts my mood. In a nutshell, it benefits me both physically and mentally.

All things considered, cycling is more than just a hobby for me — it’s a habit that brings joy, peace, and energy into my life. If I get the chance, I’d love to make it part of my daily routine.

    Follow-ups

    1. What is the difference between indoor sports and outdoor sports?
To begin with, indoor sports are played within enclosed spaces, such as badminton, table tennis, or chess, and are less affected by weather. In contrast, outdoor sports like cricket or football are played in open areas and rely heavily on favorable weather and larger playing fields. The environment and equipment used also differ significantly.
    2. Which outdoor sports are popular in India?
Cricket is undoubtedly the most popular outdoor sport in India, attracting fans of all ages across the country. Besides that, traditional sports like kabaddi and hockey also hold cultural importance. Football has gained popularity in recent years, especially among the youth in urban areas.
    3. Which sports are popular among elderly people?
Elderly people tend to favor sports and activities that are easy on the joints and promote overall well-being. Walking, swimming, and yoga are very popular because they improve mobility and reduce stress. Many seniors also enjoy light exercises like gentle stretching, often done in community parks or senior centers, which helps them stay active and socially connected.
    4. Which outdoor sports are popular with children?
Children are naturally drawn to energetic and team-based outdoor games like cricket, football, and cycling. These activities not only promote physical fitness but also teach teamwork and discipline. In many areas, kids enjoy street cricket as a daily routine after school.
    5. How does weather affect outdoor sports?
Weather conditions can greatly influence outdoor sports. Extreme heat can lead to exhaustion, while rain may make grounds slippery and unfit for play. Events are often postponed or cancelled due to bad weather, which affects both performance and safety.
    6. Which sports can children do on rainy days?
When the weather is rainy, children can participate in various indoor sports and physical activities like badminton, table tennis, or indoor swimming if facilities are available. Additionally, activities such as dance classes or martial arts not only keep them active but also help improve coordination and discipline. For younger kids, simple indoor games can be a good way to stay entertained and active.
