Describe a Creative Person You Admire | IELTS Speaking Cue Card Band 9 Sample Answer

    • Who he / she is
    • How you knew him/ her
    • What his/ her greatest achievement is
    • And explain why you think he/ she is creative

    Vocab/Idioms

    1. Jack of all trades – Someone skilled in many things.
    2. Idle mind is the devil’s workshop – Being inactive can lead to trouble.
    3. Treasure – Something very valuable.
    4. Extraordinary – Very special or unusual.
    5. Pops – Comes quickly to mind.
    6. Think out of the box – Be creative.

Well, when it comes to creativity, the first person who pops into my mind is none other than my father. I have admired him since my childhood because he is a real jack of all trades who can think differently and always comes up with fresh ideas.

Speaking of how I know him, of course, he has been with me since day one, and I have grown up watching his unique way of doing things. Instead of wasting time, he always believes that an idle mind is the devil’s workshop, so he tries to keep himself busy in productive tasks.

One of his greatest achievements, in my eyes, is how he transforms waste materials into useful things. For instance, once a bed in our house broke down, and while others thought of throwing it away, my father rolled up his sleeves and turned it into a beautiful study desk. Honestly, it was like turning trash into treasure, and this quality of his has saved us both money and effort many times.

What makes him truly creative is his ability to see extraordinary possibilities in ordinary things. Unlike many people who think creativity is only about painting or music, he proves that real creativity is about innovation, resourcefulness, and making the best out of what we already have.

Overall, I deeply admire my father because his creativity adds charm to our home and inspires me to think differently. He is my role model, and whenever I think about creativity, his face is the first that comes to my mind.

    Follow-ups

    1. Do you think children should learn to play musical instruments?
In my view, yes, children should definitely learn to play musical instruments. For example, learning piano or guitar can improve their concentration and patience. Moreover, it helps them express emotions in a creative way.
    2. How do artists acquire inspiration?
Artists usually get inspiration from their surroundings, personal experiences, or nature. For instance, a painter may watch a sunset or a busy street and turn that feeling into a beautiful artwork.
    3. Do you think pictures and videos in news reports are important?
Yes, I think they are very important because they make the news more real and understandable. For example, seeing a video of a natural disaster creates a stronger impact than just reading about it.
    4. What can we do to help children stay creative?
We can encourage children to do different activities like drawing, music, or storytelling. Also, letting them explore new hobbies without pressure helps them think outside the box.
    5. How does drawing help to enhance children’s creativity?
Drawing allows children to use their imagination and express their thoughts visually. For example, when a child draws a scene from their dream, they practice thinking in new and unique ways.
    6. Do you think you are a creative person?
Yes, I am. I like finding new solutions to small problems and enjoy doing things in my own unique style. For instance, I often organize my study notes in a creative way to make learning easier.
    7. Is it good for children to learn arts?
Yes, for sure. Learning arts helps children develop their imagination and emotional intelligence. For example, painting or acting in a play can boost their confidence and creativity.
    8. What kind of jobs require people to be creative?
Some jobs like designers, architects, writers, and marketers require high creativity. For instance, an architect needs to design buildings that are both functional and visually appealing.
    9. Do you think leaders need to have creative ability?
Of course. Creative leaders can solve problems in new ways and guide their team effectively. For example, a manager who thinks creatively may find innovative solutions to improve productivity.
