According to me, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder. There are a number of objects that I find beautiful, but one that truly left a lasting impression on me is a beautifully crafted wooden clock. Well, to be honest, I came across this clock at a local handicraft fair in Chandigarh.
If my memory serves me right, it was about a year ago, during a visit to a traditional art exhibition with my family. It immediately caught my eye because of its elegant design and natural charm.
Speaking of its appearance, it was made entirely of polished walnut wood, with delicate carvings of flowers and vines on the borders. The numbers were not printed but engraved in Roman style, giving it a vintage touch. The clock hands were golden, and the entire piece had a warm brown shine that added to its beauty. It looked both artistic and timeless.
What really took my breath away was the craftsmanship. It was clear that the artisan had poured his heart and soul into it. Every small detail was perfect — as they say, “beauty lies in the details.”
Moreover, I believe this clock was not only beautiful in appearance, but it also had emotional value. It reminded me of my grandmother’s house, where we had a similar antique clock hanging on the wall. In a nutshell, it brought back nostalgic memories.
All in all, I think this wooden clock was a perfect blend of tradition and creativity. It was a feast for the eyes, and I truly admired the effort behind it. Without a doubt, it was one of the most beautiful objects I’ve ever come across.
Follow-ups
- Do you think there are more beautiful things now than in the past? Why?
In my opinion, the modern world offers a wider variety of beautiful things than in the past, thanks to rapid technological progress and innovation. For example, today’s architecture, fashion, and digital art are more creative and diverse than ever before. However, traditional beauty from the past still holds a unique charm. - What beautiful scenery spots are there in your country?
India is blessed with a wide range of scenic spots. For instance, the snow-covered mountains of Himachal, the backwaters of Kerala, and the desert landscapes of Rajasthan are absolutely breathtaking. Moreover, places like Kashmir are often described as “heaven on earth.” - Why do you think people create beautiful things?
In my opinion, people create beautiful things to express emotions, attract attention, or preserve culture. For example, artists and designers often use beauty as a form of storytelling or emotional release. Besides that, beauty can also bring peace and happiness to both the creator and the viewer. - Where do you think people usually come into contact with beautiful things?
Generally speaking, people encounter beauty in many places such as nature, museums, social media, and public art. For instance, someone might admire a painting in a gallery or see a stunning sunset during a walk. In today’s world, beauty is all around us, especially online. - Do people in your country prefer listening to music to appreciating paintings and literature?
Yes, to a large extent, music is more popular in my country because it is easily accessible and suits all age groups. For example, people often listen to songs while travelling or working. On the other hand, appreciation for literature and painting is growing, especially among educated youth. - Why do many people go to scenic spots in person instead of just reading about them in books?
Well, the main reason is that real-life experience feels more emotional and impactful. For instance, seeing the Taj Mahal directly creates a memory that books simply can’t offer. Additionally, people enjoy taking photos and breathing in the fresh air at such places.
