Well, to kick things off, there are a variety of cultures around the world, and every culture has its unique charm. Here, I would like to talk about a friend from Korea with whom I really enjoy spending time.

His name is Lee, and he is from South Korea. I met him during my college years when we were both studying business management. He had come to India as an exchange student. We were in the same class, and later we worked together on a group project. That’s how we became close friends.

Speaking of his culture, I found it quite different but absolutely fascinating. He once shared pictures and videos of Korean festivals, traditional clothing like hanbok, and famous dishes such as kimchi and ramyeon. I even attempted to eat with chopsticks for the first time because of him—it was a bit tricky, but also enjoyable.
He also introduced me to K-pop music and Korean dramas, which gave me more insight into his country’s lifestyle and entertainment industry. We even planned to visit Korea together someday to explore his hometown.

What I admire about him is that he is respectful, calm, and hardworking. As the saying goes, “actions speak louder than words,” and he shows kindness through his behavior, not just words. He also taught me a few Korean words, and I taught him some Hindi in return.

To wrap it up, I feel really happy and proud to have a friend like Lee. He helped me understand a new culture and made my college life more exciting. All in all, spending time with him is always enjoyable and full of learning.

    Follow-ups

    1. Is it easy to meet people from different cultural backgrounds in your country?

Well, to be honest, yes, it has become quite easy nowadays. Thanks to globalization and social media, people from different countries visit or settle in India for work or studies. For example, I met a Korean friend at my college, and we still stay in touch.

    1. What do people from different cultural backgrounds usually talk about with each other?

Generally speaking, they talk about their traditions, food, festivals, and daily routines. This helps both sides learn something new. For instance, I once talked with a French student about Diwali, and she shared how she celebrates Christmas.

    1. Is it good to live in a multicultural society?

Absolutely yes! Living in a multicultural society broadens thinking and makes people more accepting. For example, one gets to try different cuisines, learn new languages, and understand others’ values and beliefs.

    1. What are the advantages of being friends with people from different cultural backgrounds?

Well, one clear advantage is exposure to new ideas and lifestyles. Such friendships make people more open-minded. For instance, my friend from Japan taught me how to be punctual and respectful in every situation.

    1. Why do people choose to travel or live abroad?

There are several reasons. Some move for better job opportunities, while others go for education or a new experience. Moreover, people want to explore different cultures and enjoy a different standard of living.

    1. What are the benefits of living in another country?

Living abroad can be a life-changing experience. It improves language skills, builds independence, and boosts confidence. For example, when my cousin moved to Canada, he became more self-reliant and open to new ways of thinking.
