Describe a person who you think wears unusual clothes | May to August 2025 | 8 band sample

    Who this person is

    How you knew this person

    What his/her clothes are like

And explain why you think his/her clothes are unusual

    VOCAB/IDIOMS

    • Dress to impress – Wear clothes to make a good impression
    • Dress to express – Wear clothes to show your personality
    • Bosom friend – Very close friend
    • Thick as thieves – Very close and trusting friendship
    • Anything but ordinary – Very unique or different
    • Turned heads – Attracted attention
    • Cool as a cucumber – Calm and confident, even in a surprising situation
    • Stand out in a crowd – Be noticeably different from others
    • Dress to fit in – Wear clothes to be like everyone else
    • Born to stand out – Meant to be different or unique

Well, to begin with, fashion has become an important way for people to express their individuality, but not everyone follows the typical trends. Some people dress to impress, while others dress to express. One such person I know is my close friend Aman, who definitely stands out in a crowd due to his unusual clothing style.

Speaking of who he is, Aman is my bosom friend, and we’ve been thick as thieves since our school days. We met in 7th grade, and since then, we’ve shared countless memories. Despite our many similarities, one thing that sets him apart is his completely unique fashion sense.

Now, talking about his outfits, they are anything but ordinary. He loves wearing clothes that most people wouldn’t dare to try. For example, he wears super bright colours like neon green, electric blue, or flaming red—even during the daytime. His clothes are often mismatched, oversized, or have unusual patterns like comic characters or abstract art. What’s even more surprising is that he wears things like fur slippers or glittery shoes to college or shopping malls, no matter the weather or occasion.

I remember one incident vividly—it was the middle of winter, and while everyone was wrapped up in jackets and sweaters, Aman came to college wearing a sleeveless T-shirt, shorts, and woollen boots. Naturally, he turned heads wherever he went. Some people laughed, others looked shocked, but Aman walked around cool as a cucumber, completely confident in his look.

To be honest, I think his clothes are unusual because they break all social norms. While most people dress to fit in, he dresses to stand out. I once asked him why he chooses such outfits, and he said, “Why blend in when you were born to stand out?” I found that quite powerful. He believes that fashion is a personal statement and everyone should feel free to experiment.

All in all, Aman is a one-of-a-kind person who wears clothes that may look unusual to others, but he owns them with full confidence. He’s taught me that being different isn’t a weakness—it’s a superpower. And honestly, that’s something I truly admire about him.

    Follow – ups

    1. What are the differences between clothes worn by old people and those by young people?

Well, older people usually prefer simple and traditional clothes that are comfortable, like cotton shirts or loose suits. On the other hand, young people like to follow trends and wear stylish outfits like jeans, T-shirts, and sneakers. For example, my grandfather wears plain kurtas, while my younger cousin wears fashionable hoodies and joggers.

    1. What kind of clothes do people wear in the workplace?

Generally speaking, people in offices wear formal clothes like shirts, trousers, or business suits. However, in creative fields, casual clothes like jeans and T-shirts are also acceptable.
For instance, my sister works in a bank and wears formal suits, but my friend wears casual clothes at her workplace.

    1. Do you think it is a good idea to buy clothes online?

Yes, buying clothes online is a good idea because it saves time and offers a wide variety.
However, sometimes the size or material is not as expected. For example, I once ordered a jacket online, but it didn’t fit me well, so I had to return it.

    1. Do you think young people wear unusual clothes more than other age groups?
Yes, definitely. Young people love to try new and bold fashion styles to express themselves.
In contrast, older people prefer more traditional and simple clothing.
For example, teenagers often wear trendy jeans or funky prints, which older people usually avoid.
    2. Do you think that the style of clothing is more important than its comfort?

In my view, comfort is more important, especially for daily wear. Although some people prefer stylish clothes, they can feel uncomfortable for long hours. For instance, tight jeans may look good, but loose trousers are more comfortable for regular use.

    1. What factors affect people’s decisions when buying clothes?

There are many factors, like price, comfort, design, and purpose of use.
Moreover, brand and trends also influence buying choices, especially for youngsters.
For example, someone might buy cheap daily wear, but spend more on wedding outfits.
