Well, India is a diverse country, and there are countless cities that are famous for different reasons. However, the city I would like to talk about is Chandigarh, which I find extremely interesting and well-known.
To begin with, Chandigarh is located in the northern part of India and is the capital of both Punjab and Haryana. It is near the Shivalik hills and is popularly known as “The City Beautiful.” The city is well planned and divided into sectors, which makes transportation convenient and gives it an organized appearance. Unlike many overcrowded cities, Chandigarh has wide roads, clean surroundings, and plenty of green spaces.
Talking about what it is famous for, Chandigarh is widely known for its greenery, tourist attractions, and peaceful environment. For instance, Rock Garden of Chandigarh is one of the most iconic attractions there because it was created using recycled materials and showcases remarkable creativity. Apart from that, Sukhna Lake is another famous destination where people go for boating, morning walks, and relaxation. In addition, the city has beautiful parks, shopping centres, gardens, and modern marketplaces, which attract tourists from different parts of the country.
As far as I remember, I first came to know about Chandigarh through one of my friends who often talked about its beauty and calm atmosphere. Later on, out of curiosity, I watched several YouTube videos and searched online to gather more information about the city. After seeing those videos and pictures, I was genuinely impressed by its neat roads, greenery, and modern infrastructure.
To be honest, I think Chandigarh is very interesting because it offers the perfect balance between urban development and nature. People can enjoy modern facilities while still staying connected to a peaceful environment. It is truly a breath of fresh air compared to many congested cities. Moreover, its cleanliness, planned layout, and tourist attractions make it stand out from other places. Without a doubt, Chandigarh leaves a lasting impression on visitors because of its beauty, peaceful surroundings, and high quality of life.
Follow-ups
- What advantages can tourism bring to a city?
Well, I believe tourism can bring numerous benefits to a city. To begin with, it boosts the economy because tourists spend money on hotels, restaurants, and shopping centres. Moreover, it creates employment opportunities for local people. On top of that, tourism also helps promote culture and traditions. It can be a win-win situation for both visitors and residents.
- Why do some young people like to live in cities?
As far as I know, many young people prefer living in cities because they provide better facilities and opportunities. For instance, cities offer quality education, job opportunities, and modern infrastructure. Apart from that, there are entertainment options like malls, cafes, and parks. Cities give people room to grow, both personally and professionally.
- Do most elderly people live in the city or in the countryside?
Well, it mainly depends on individuals and their preferences. However, I think many elderly people prefer living in the countryside because it is peaceful and less crowded. In addition, they can enjoy a healthier environment and stronger community bonds. They prefer a slower pace of life. On the other hand, some elderly people stay in cities to remain close to healthcare facilities.
- Do you think well-developed tourism will have negative effects on local people?
To some extent, yes. Although tourism has many advantages, it can also create certain problems. For example, overcrowding, traffic congestion, and increased living costs may affect local residents. Furthermore, some places may lose their cultural identity over time. Every coin has two sides, so proper management is necessary.

Secondly, it creates more employment opportunities and boosts economic growth. Besides this, people get access to better facilities and technology. It improves the standard of living to a great extent.
- Do you think the big cities in India today will become even larger in the future?
Yes, definitely. I believe big cities in India will continue to expand in the future. The main reason is that people move to cities in search of better jobs and education. As a result, urban areas are growing rapidly. Slowly but surely, cities are becoming larger and more developed.
